Mandla Mofokeng (also known as Spikiri) is one of South Africa’s most celebrated and influential music producers. With a career spanning over 30 years, he is one of the pioneers of the South African music genre Kwaito. He started his career as a back-up dancer for Chicco Twala in the mid-80’s. In 1988, he and fellow legendary producer Mdu Masilela formed the duo “MM-Delux“. As a duo, MM-Delux released two albums; Where Were You (1990) and Be Free My People (1990), which were both financially successful and set the tone for the future of Kwaito music. Spikiri is a founding member of iconinc Kwaito group Trompies. He has produced countless hits for artists such as Kabelo, Tokollo, Alaska, Teargas, the late greats Mawillies, Brown Dash and PRO and many more. He recently took home the Best Kwaito/Gqom/Amapiano award at the 2019 South African Music Awards for his album “King Don Father” which features a host of both legendary and up and coming artists including the late HHP, Kabelo, Professor, Maseven Opse, Chaka Dolla, Bingobash and more. Spiriki’s production style can be credited as one of the main influences of the current SA Hip-Hop sound.
